At St Andrew’s, we provide a quality care pathway and manage patient’s mental illness and offending behaviours, with the aim of rehabilitating them to lower levels of security, including back into the community. Our secure services offer a broad range of therapeutic programmes as well as education, vocational training, work experience and community facilities.

Our age-appropriate environments and therapy programmes are led by an expert team of specialists with experience in managing challenging patients with conditions including psychosis, schizophrenia and personality disorder (PD).

We have a full-time multidisciplinary team (MDT), including psychiatrists, psychologists, occupational therapists (OT), speech and language therapists (SALT), social workers and nurses.

We can manage a range of index offences, including Sex Offender Treatment Programme (SOTP), adapted SOTP, substance misuse programmes and firesetting groups.

In addition to our specialist secure services, we provide three unique care pathways:

  • the UK’s only transitional service for young men aged between 18 and 25
  • the largest medium secure Deaf service in the UK
  • specialist medium secure services for older men over 55.

A therapeutic culture

Our philosophy is recovery orientated and based on My Shared Pathway. After a period of stabilisation, patients progress to engage actively in their care plan with the aim of maintaining changes and moving on. Initially, we address the mental illness before addressing forensic needs. Read more...

Experts in managing risk

Complete pathways in a range of locations

With a full care pathway including medium, low and non secure services, we are able to move patients to the least restrictive environment possible, maintaining a consistent therapy programme and access to vocational activities.

Discharge is considered at admission and our clinical and social work teams will work with local area teams to manage transition into either the community or supported accommodation.

St Andrew’s offers highly bespoke community care packages to support very complex patients.  This would be discussed and agreed with the commissioner in advance.
