I enjoy the varied nature of the job with its different challenges. I've been impressed with how supportive and friendly colleagues have been.
Physical healthcare at St Andrew's is a nurse led service. We aim to improve and maintain the physical wellbeing of all the patients being cared for by the Charity. We respond to urgent and accute ailments to stop people becoming more unwell and support those with long term complaints.
Our Physical Healthcare Nurses have the autonomy to make clinical decisions and play a key role in ensuring that patients receive co-ordinated care through liaising with other care providers such as GPs and A&E staff.
Roles in Physical Healthcare
We employ physical healthcare Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Healthcare Assistants in a close team that works across all areas of the Charity. Our ethos is to improve health and we enjoy working with each other. We support your work in areas you are interested in, and one of the benefits of working for St Andrew's is that you have an opportunity to see your patients progress, something that is not always possible in large healthcare organisations.
Your first year with us
When you join us you will receive training and support to ensure that you are well equipped to succeed in your role and to provide the best possible care to your patients. We access very clinically oriented courses covering a range of conditions from minor illness, to chronic disease management, to end of life care.
You will buddy Advanced Nurse Practitioners and be supported by staff teams and your physical healthcare colleagues. You will get involved in clinical decision making, putting care plans in place, and liaising with other healthcare staff in primary and secondary care depending on the needs of your patients.
We hope you will bring your skills, enthusiasm and tenacity to the role. You will need to work flexibly to adapt to the day - the work can vary a lot. In return, you will find St Andrew's a rewarding, supportive and caring place to develop your career as Physical Healthcare Nurse.
