Information for students

Requesting a placement

If you would like a placement with us, your university or medical school should contact us to request one for you.

If you are a medical student interested in an elective placement, requests can be made directly by your student administrator.

All students will need a current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Preparing for your placement with us

If you are successful, you will receive a profile of your placement area and the learning opportunities before you start.

Before you join us, you will receive a student handbook.

We encourage you to visit us before you start and to have a meeting with your mentor.

Starting your placement

When you start your placement, you will receive training tailored to the clinical area you will be working in. Certain training is mandatory, including personal safety and breakaway training.

You will also receive a local induction for your learning placement. This involves key training and an induction to clinical services.

An honorary contract and a full five day induction programme will be provided for placements which are longer than six months.
